Mixx for the iPhone

Mixx on the iPhone

Good morning, everyone! A quick announcement for you to enjoy over breakfast (or brunch, or lunch, depending on where and when you are).

We’re pleased to announce the launch of Mixx for the iPhone. This is a version 0.1-ish, so there will be more features coming down the line real soon. Currently, you can view the top ten most popular stories on Mixx. This is great if you’re on the go and need that quick Mixx Fix (Fixx?).

The next version (which should be available in the coming weeks) will be ramped up with more stories, photos, and videos, vote counts, thumbnails, and more information about individual items. Like Mixx, Mixx for the iPhone is a work in progress, and we’ll continue to add and improve features over time. We’d also like to know what features you’d like to see. Let us know in the comments!

If you have an iPhone, check out Mixx at http://i.mixx.com/.

It’s a good start, even with the very limited features. One thing you might want to address is how the workflow starts with a list which the user clicks an item on, then you get a bit more detail with a clickable headline which opens a new tab with the actual Mixx page and a clickable link, which then opens another new tab with the content the user actually wants to check out. Seems very odd to me to open 2 new Safari tabs just to get to the real “meat” of the headline.

I actually find the whole open in a new tab thing to be a bit of a pain on the iPhone. I’d prefer to have everything happening in the one tab so I can just click through to a story and then push the back button to back out of it.

Cool, now all I need is an iPhone and I am good to go :)

@Patrick and @Matt: I’ve updated Mixx for the iPhone so that links out from there stay in the same tab/page. Thanks for the feedback!

So is this just for the iHype or will actual Smart Phones be able to use this? I would love to have just a regular mobile version where I can vote for stories and everything, but I doubt that will happen with the limited javascript most mobile phones can use.

    Hey Mark
Jason did this in his spare time cause he has an iPhone and thought it would be cool. (It is). He surprised us because we didn’t have plans to do much on mobile until we fix and improve some basic things on the non-mobile versions of the site.

That being said, we want to do a non-iPhone mobile version, as soon as it pops to the top on our to-do lists. Which we’re getting there, but we keep getting some good suggestions from Mixxers that cause some great diversions. But we’ll get there!

Please test it with the Nokia S60 Browser — it’s WebKit, too, y’know

This is a good start, but needs to be expanded upon.

I would totally use Mixx on my iPhone every day if it had all the features.
