You Have Mixx Messaging!

Posted by Kerry on February 6th, 2008

We’ve always said we have the best community out there, and that’s due in part to how well you communicate with one another—and with us. Today we’re launching two new features that will make it even easier!

Mixx Mail Phase 1: Now you can send and receive messages to and from anyone in the community without ever leaving the Mixx. Mixx Mail offers some very handy little features, including:

  • The icons of all Mixx friends in your address book—especially useful if you’re like us and remember faces/avatars better than names.
  • Send a message to a Mixxer directly from that user’s profile page.
  • Block overeager wanna-be groupies. That’s right—not only can you slam the door on their friendship pleas, but now you can block them from sending messages, not that you’d be so cruel. Right? Well ok then, just don’t block us.
  • Opt to have a daily digest sent to your regular email and we’ll let you know how many messages you have waiting.

Phase 2 with more improvements is coming very soon, so get your feedback and suggestions in to us as soon as possible.

Group Message Boards: Ever wish you could have a discussion with members of your group that wasn’t tied to one specific content entry? We thought so, and now you can do just that with the new Mixx Group Message Boards. You’ll find the Message Boards on Your Groups page, where the Soapbox used to be (don’t worry, we moved your Soapbox contents to the new board).

Finally, many of you were listening to the latest Social Blend podcast when Mixx founder Chris McGill promised a bunch of new features/fixes based on Mixxer requests. And since it’s bonus season and it can’t hurt to make the boss look good, we thought we’d get right on a few of those (but not all, yet). So, as promised:

1. When you want to share content fast, choose “select all” and send it to all of your Followers at once.

2. Filter your searches by text, photo or video (see mixx.com/search).

3. Tags from YourMixx will once again pop up in the submission process.

Enjoy the new and improved Mixx and, as ever, use the Feedback mailbox, send Mixx Mail to user feedback, and/or Blog Comments to let us know what you think. Stay tuned—there’s lots more cool stuff on the way!

What’s the deal with the messaging? I’m just getting endless repeats of the same two damn messages that I didn’t want in the first place and keep having to delete them! Knock it off!

Love the new features and thanks for the small update. Glad I can opt out of a message that I no longer want to receive. This is by far the best community I’ve ever been apart of!

The remove control fixed the spammers, but I find I am getting mail that I have sent out to others in my own mailbox over and over again. I can mark it as read or delete it but it keeps reappearing.
Sorry to moan - I like the idea of a messaging system very much.

    @HanibalCat,
Sorry for the confusion on the reappearance of a message in your inbox if you have deleted it. What most likely is happening is that even though you deleted the message from your inbox, if someone replies, it is going to show back up in your inbox. If you do not want to receive anymore responses on that message, just click on the link “remove yourself from the conversation” and you will no longer receive anymore responses.
