Adding More Ingredients to the Mixx: Related Content
Posted by Jason on February 19th, 2008A while ago we were trying to submit something to the Mixx and it was suggested that our story might be a duplicate. Sadly it was, because some “gunner” (yeah, you know who you are) always beats us to these things. But after voting for his story and moving on, it occurred to us that, while it was the same story, it wasn’t really the same story. Same topic? Check. Same source? Check. Same angle? Che… Hey! No, it wasn’t! The first one was the news story and ours was from one of the editorial page columnists.
It’s situations like this—and we know it’s happened to you, too—that have us doing a little happy dance about the new feature we’re rolling out. Starting today, when the system says that you might be submitting a duplicate, you’ll have the option to submit that story as being related to another piece of content. So instead of just saying “yes, it’s a duplicate” and voting for the original, you’ll be given a couple of options for how the content is related to the original:
Please note that this is NOT permission to sneak in dupes. Trust us, we already tried it and we can assure you that yes, you do still have to play by the rules.
Are you a Super Mixxer?
Although we love each and every one of you, some of you are blessed with (ok, you worked for) more Karma than others. So if you have a combination of Karma points; high quality, diverse submissions and comments; and have been a model Mixxer for at least 30 days, you are a Super Mixxer and that means that you have access to a special feature enhancement. On every page, Super Mixxers will have the option to link that piece of content with any other previously Mixxed story, photo or video—no matter how long that content has been in the Mixx. The really cool thing about this is that, through your efforts, the entire Mixx community will get a more complete picture of any number of topics, all neatly tied together. Before we go, we must stress that Super Mixxers are not in any way, shape or form being given a tool to delete or hide content. We don’t play that way and we know that you don’t either. That’s one of the reasons why we like you so much. This is a power than can only be used for good—find the good stuff, link it together to make it better for everyone. If you decide to act like a child (not you specifically, of course) and abuse this feature, we’ll be forced to take away your toys and send you to your room. And you wouldn’t want to miss out on being part of social media history, would you? After all, this is the first time users have been given this tool. Pretty cool, eh?
And remember, every member of the Mixx community can become a Super Mixxer, so if you didn’t get the invite today, get back in there and get Mixxing!
