A Cool End to Another Hot Summer

August is traditionally a slow news month, but that’s not going to stop us from letting you in on a few tweaks we’ve made to Mixx! Besides if we share these now, we’ll have more time to focus on the post-Labor Day goodies we have in store.

Twitter Integration: Members of Mixx Communities will now be able to use our integration with Twitter to choose topics relevant to your Community, and have the latest relevant tweets delivered right to the Community. Say you have a Community devoted to, oh, Star Wars. You can enter the search term “Star Wars” to get all the recent tweets where someone mentioned “Star Wars”. All that beautiful Chewbacca chatter will then be yours to share. Look in the Editorial section of the Community Management panel to find these controls.

This is a really cool feature and you’ll also see it throughout Mixx on various tag and category pages, as appropriate. For instance, the Olympics are obviously dominating the conversation right now, so you’ll find it on the Olympics category page.

We’d like to take a moment to note, mention, and outright brag that we go way back with some of the folks over at Summize.com (the DC-area startup behind this search feature), which was recently acquired by Twitter. So a huge congrats to them, and, yes, we’d be using this feature even if we didn’t know them. It’s just that cool. Before you try, a word of caution: It’s addictive!

Cleaner Navigation: We’ve had such an incredible response to the new comment system that the only thing left to take care of was a request to come up with a faster way to get to all of that beautiful new comment traffic. And why wouldn’t you want to get there faster? After all, the number of comments on Mixx each day doubled since our last install on August 7. So now, all the headlines on story lists around Mixx connect straight to the Mixx story page so you can make more insightful and brilliant comments quicker! Don’t worry, if you want to take a look at the story, photo or video from the source; all you need to do is click the view story / photo / video link right next to the headline.

It’s the Little Things: We’ve also tweaked the pagination, so now at the bottom of every page you’ll see “1 2 3 4 5 . . .” instead of just “Next.” Makes it a little easier to get where you need to be, no?
