We’re Back! Did You Miss Us?
Posted by Melanie on October 6th, 2008Wow! Have we gone off the radar or what? It’s been almost a month since our last post, but you know where we’ve been—working, working, working! We have some cool new features and upgrades to share, so let’s get right to it:
CNN Partner Page
On the CNN Partner page, which lives under the “Popular” tab, you’ll find the most-recommended (by CNN Readers) content, including CNN stories and videos for the last day, the last week and the past year. Being the astute Mixxer that we know and love, you will of course notice that the layout looks a teeny bit different than your standard Mixx page. That was intentional, so no, you don’t need to let us know! We will be doing this for other partner pages and sites in the future. And coming soon, the ability to claim these CNNReader submits as your own.Go to Your Room! Or, It’s Time for a Little Timeout
You and most other Mixxers are an orderly, law-abiding bunch, but every once in awhile someone is bound to misbehave. Up until now, whenever this happened we manually (and unseen) tracked their transgressions and gave them the opportunity to redeem themselves. If they didn’t, we gave them the boot. Throughout this process, the rest of the Mixx Community didn’t see any progress being made against the unruly one, which occasionally led to our users either thinking that 1) we weren’t doing anything about it, or 2) that a Mixxer was randomly banned without notice. But now, with our new Timeout feature, a misbehaving Mixxer will be given a temporary ban—the length will depend on the transgression—to go along with our standing 3-strikes policy. We are keeping our “3-strikes you are out” policy, but remember if you are really bad, the “no strikes you are out” policy will rule the day. While in suspension, it will be clear to others that the Mixxer is in a forced Timeout. In fact, it will look like this:
And his comments will look like this:
Now don’t worry about Jason. He put himself in Timeout figuring it was a good cover for sneaking out the back door, but we caught him on his way to the parking lot. You’ll be happy to know he’s safely back at work.
Comment Improvements
Your thoughts are a huge part of what makes Mixx such a great place to be, so we’re always looking for new ways to improve the Commenting feature. Our latest upgrade will highlight any comment made by the Mixxer who actually submitted the original story, photo or video. It will also let you know if a comment was made by a SuperMixxer. And thanks to the call-out from Sebkom, you’ll also notice that we’ve also returned the drop down that lets you jump to comments across Groups.
Registration and Login Improvements
In response to your many, many requests, we’ve made it easier than ever to register and log in to Mixx using a third-party account such as AOL, Yahoo and Facebook, as well as any OpenID provider. Of course, we’re still more than happy to register new Mixxers who want to use an email address and sign in with their very own Mixx ID!Update: Jason wrote up a slightly more technical explanation about the new registration and login process over in the Engine Room.
Enough for one day? We think so. But there’s a lot more coming in the next couple of weeks, so we promise that we won’t abandon you for long!
Let us know what you think about the new features—you know how we love the Feedback! Have a great week, and we’ll see you soon!
Your Mixx Team
